Sri Srinivasa Ayurveda Pharmacy





Sri Srinivasa Ayurveda Pharmacy was established by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams at Srinivasa Mangapuram around 12 Kms away from Tirupati during the year 1990 under the guidance of Late Sri Balaraju Maharshi, an eminent personality in the field of Herbal Medicine, as per the TTD Trust Board Resolution No.817, dated: 23-01-1989.

The renovated old – Sub – Collector’s office buildings were used for the establishment of pharmacy. The total extent of the Pharmacy campus is 19.5 acres out of which 2.5 acres area is occupied by the Pharmacy building and rest of the land contains herb garden and other tree species developed by the Forest department, TTD. The pharmacy is equipped with latest Machinery suitable for various Pharmaceutical works.

Tirumala, the holy place of Lord Sri Venkateswara is rich with lot of Medicinal Plants. The pharmacy is established primarily to utilize the herbal heritage of Tirumala Hills for the benefit of pilgrims & other public and also for promotion of Ayurveda with free distribution of Medicines under the name “vanoushadhi vitarana yagnam” to popularize the importance of our Indian system of medicine throughout the country. Secondarily supply of medicines produced in the pharmacy is being made to the local TTD Ayurvedic Hospital and other TTD dispensaries satisfactorily as per their requirements. Totally about 120 types of medicines are being manufactured under the following categories.

In front of the pharmacy building the plot existing besides Lord Dhanvantari statue (Southern side) has been recently developed with medicinal plants useful in primary health care to educate the visiting people and to create awareness.



Orders from the Government to include Sri Srinivasa Ayurveda Pharmacy in 2nd schedule of TTDs were received and also approved the posts sanctioned. The Dept. of AYUSH, Govt. of India, New Delhi sanctioned 1.3 Crores of Central Funds towards strengthening of Sri Srinivasa Ayurveda Pharmacy and to promote propagation and conservation of Medicinal Plants in TTD areas. The connected Central Project Works are under progress.

OBJECTIVES :
1) Procurement of raw materials of different commodities through an effective purchase procedure
2) Proper maintenance of quality and purity of inputs, process and outputs
3) Manufacture of required dosage forms duly following standard operation procedures as per the guidelines of the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
4) To fulfill satisfactorily the needs of Ayurveda Hospital, Dispensaries and free camps and to make the Pharmacy self sustainable.
5) To promote propagation of selected species of medicinal plants and to utilize precious herbal heritage of Tirumala Hills for the use of the pharmacy.
6) To promote and propagate Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of Medicine and pride of our country.

MAIN ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

1. PROCUREMENT OF RAW MATERIALS:
Raw materials of different commodities such as Roots, Leaves, Barks, Flowers, Fruits and Seeds etc., are being purchased from different crude drug merchants through Tender system by the TTD Marketing Department as per the required specifications. This will help to procure required raw materials of assured quality in time.

2. MANUFACTURE OF MEDICINES:
The Production unit is having sufficient machinery and equipment to prepare different dosage forms such as Powders, Tablets, Capsules, Syrups, Oils, Ointments etc., required for the use of TTD Ayurveda Hospitals and Dispensary.

3. QUALITY CONTROL:
1.3 Crores of Central Funds have been sanctioned by the Dept. of AYUSH, Govt. of India, New Delhi for strengthening of Ayurveda Pharmacy. In this context efforts are being made to establish a Quality Control Laboratory for effective quality control of inputs, process and outputs.

4. IMPLEMENTATION OF GMP GUIDELINES:
Efforts are being made to implement all the guidelines of GMP for effective quality control, cleanliness and maintenance of Standard Operation Procedures and records connected to them.

5. SUPPLY OF MEDICINES:
Efforts are being made to supply the required quantities of various varieties of Medicines under proper invoice at regular intervals as per the indents communicated by the TTD Ayurveda Hospital and Dispensary.

6. DEVELOPMENT OF HERB GARDEN:
To create awareness on importance of common herbs in primary health care, demonstrative plots with selected species of medicinal herbs have been developed in the Pharmacy campus.

7. PROMOTION OF AYURVEDA:
As a part of promotion, preservation and popularization of Ayurveda, our Country’s Pride, Pharmacy has brought out Video CD’s titled “Sri Venkateswara Vanamoolika Vignanam” and published 5 - 6 books on Gruhavaidyam and Cultivation of Medicinal Plants apart from organizing Exhibition Stalls during special occasions of TTD like Brahmotsavams etc., to create awareness about the importance and usage of common herbs in common diseases.






FUTURE PLANS :-
1) To take necessary steps to prepare all categories of Ayurvedic Medicines detailed in the annual indent of TTDs Ayurveda Hospital.
2) To procure additional machinery and other equipment for expansion of the pharmacy activities.
3) To establish Quality control laboratory to maintain required standards.
4) To complete construction of remaining part of compound wall.
5) To telecast information documented in Video cassettes through TTD Bhakti Channel.
6) To produce & release further series of video and audio CDs on medicinal plants.
7) To print and publish further parts of Gruhavaidyam.
8) Plantation of certain rare and valuable species of medicinal plants in the pharmacy campus with relevant information through the Forest Department, TTD.
9) To construct over head tank for better distribution of water.
10) To establish Raw Drug Museum to maintain quality control.
11) To open permanent Sales cum Exhibition counter of pharmacy products either at Tirumala or Tirupati.
12) To establish Seed House, Nursery and Mist Chamber towards conservation of endangered species of Medicinal Plants.
13) Establishment of ‘Collection Wing’ to procure raw materials in collaboration with TTD Forest Department and Girijan Corporation, Vizag & Srisailam.
14) To promote and propagate Ayurvedic system of medicine through TTD Dharma Prachara Parishad and to create awareness on the significance of Medicinal Plants of spiritual importance through publication in TTDs ‘Saptagiri’, a monthly magazine.
15) To change and improve mode of packing for better elegance and presentation of pharmacy products in view of sales proposals.
16) To collect, print and publish ancient Ayurvedic manuscripts and other rare treatises – as part of promoting and propagating Ayurveda, our Indian system of medicine.
17) To visit renowned Ayurveda Pharmacies, research institutes, extraction plants, and medicinal herb gardens in South / North India to study the latest techniques in the respective fields for further development of TTD pharmacy.
18) Further, efforts are being made to strengthen the existing infrastructure as per the GMP guidelines duly Utilizing Central Financial Assistance & Developing the unit in near future as an ideal Ayurveda Pharmacy in the state.
